ATHENS MARATHON

The Athens marathon is renowned for recreating the exact route that Pheidippides, the messenger, ran from Marathon to Athens in 490 BC to deliver news of a military victory. It's a historic and significant race. In addition to the marathon, there are two other races, the 10K and 5K, which are great options for the whole family. All races culminate in the iconic Panathenaic Stadium.

During the marathon, you'll follow the original route, allowing you to experience the same journey as Pheidippides. Along the way, you'll pass by several landmarks that add to the historical significance of the race.

The starting line is near the Kolpos peninsula, which is situated close to the beach. The first 10K of the race is relatively flat, but after that, you'll encounter some elevation before reaching the finish line, which is more than 100 meters above sea level. While the race presents its challenges, the breathtaking scenery makes it all worth it. You'll feel transported back in time as you soak in the surroundings.
